Save-Room-For-Dessert Fall Supper for Four

Ever since I posted this Warm Chocolate Pudding Cake, requests have come in that it be my contribution to potlucks. It turns out to be easy to transport in its elements-dry ingredients in a baggie, wet mixed together in a jar-and bake at the host’s house. The transformation from flour, cocoa, butter, and milk is astonishing. Put the cake in the oven when you sit down to appetizers. All of which is to say that whatever you eat before Warm Chocolate Pudding Cake should be tasty but light. Here, we start with bite-sized meatballs, then progress to an all-vegetarian main and side. Then-at last-the pudding cake. Be sure to have vanilla ice cream on hand for serving.
