5 Ways to Get Your Roommate to Stop Eating Your Food

I must confess that I have never had a problem with my roommates eating my food. Ever. (I’m knocking on wood as I write this) So, needless to say, I had little idea what to suggest. The only thing that comes to mind is to label everything and have each person have their own shelf. If that fails, give them food poisoning. The latter option seemed a little extreme, so I turned to my friends and asked them for some tried and true advice.

1. Psychoanalyze. Liz, the psychologist of the group and budding nurse, had to contend with this …

Dear Freshman Self,

Congrats. You’re about to enter fall term of what will be an exhilarating, fast-paced, but ultimately awesome first year of college. And guess what? Following that, you can look forward to a pretty cool three years. You’ll have your ups and downs, like anyone will. Dealing with that incredibly long distance relationship will be tough. You’ll have a close-knit, funny freshman floor (note: four years later, most of you will still spend a significant amount of time together) and the choice of classes you are now able to take will blow your mind.

Just wanted to let

Dorm Room Bar: Blueberry Ginger Smash

IMG_0019

Though Labor Day has passed, I’m not ready to say goodbye to summer quite yet. The weather might be getting cooler, but I’m in denial. I’m still enjoying the corn, peaches, tomatoes, and warm summer evenings. As long as summer produce is still here, I see no need to start cooking with squash and apples. Instead, I’m taking advantage of late summer’s bounty by slow roasting tomatoes, devouring slices of watermelon, and snacking on raspberries. But my current favorite summer recipe is not a dish, but a cocktail.

A Blueberry Ginger Smash Cocktail contains freshly muddled …

End of Summer Foodie Bucket List

Collage

Summer is a big flirt.

It leads you on with its perfect evenings spent watching sunsets, cool nights spent listening to fireworks wrapped in a blanket and afternoons spent splashing in the cooling temperatures of the ocean.

It promises clam bakes, picnics and ice cream for breakfast.

It burns your skin, lightens your hair and lifts your mood.

It keeps you wondering what will tomorrow bring, and asks if the next day could possibly be any better than the present.

It has you wishing that you could freeze time and bottle those hours of sunshine and late nights under the …

5 Ingredient Feast: Frozen Greek Yogurt with Blackberries and Mint

Blackberry FroYo

Ice cream is one of those foods that is pretty much universally loved. I mean, who doesn’t love ice cream? Certainly not my family. We absolutely adore it. When, as a baby, it was found that I was lactose intolerant, my mother lamented the fact that I could never eat ice cream. Later, when I was a little older and had – thankfully – grown out of my lactose intolerance, my sister and I would spend a week or so each summer visiting our Nana. The last thing my dad always said before our parents dropped us off was, …

You’re Invited: Backyard Movie Night

DRIVEIN2

image from Cinema Retro

I have fond memories of going to the drive-in movies with my parents on summer nights. We’d drive twenty minutes to a field in the middle of nowhere, Pennsylvania (or so it felt). We’d be dressed in our pajamas, with pillows and blankets in tow.

We’d pop the trunk and fold down the back seats of our sedan (we thought it was so cool to sit in the trunk) and tune to the right radio station just in time for the corny commercials. The first movie was always family friendly, but I tried really hard to …

One hundred years ago today, Julia Child was born. Once a typist working for the U.S. government, Julia became a culinary legend with the publication of Mastering the Art of French Cooking. Meticulously researched and tested, Julia’s recipes are foolproof and palatable. With her unrelenting charm and unflappable demeanor, the French chef taught us lessons that extended beyond kitchen knife skills and chicken deboning.
