Cooking 101: How to Melt Chocolate

It may sound simple, but if you make a ton of chocolate bark like we do, you’ll need to make sure you know how to properly melt your chocolate. Burnt chocolate is one of the many kitchen disasters you want to avoid–it isn’t pretty, and certainly isn’t tasty. And when you’re working in a small college kitchen, this is one of the easiest, most satisfying skills to have in your arsenal.

Check out Phoebe and Cara’s “prep school” video-no one wants to learn over the summer, but this is one class that’s definitely worth it.

Cara and Phoebe are co-founders of Small Kitchen College.

I could’ve used this yesterday when I was making frozen bananas dipped in chocolate! If you overheat the chocolate somehow, remove from heat and add some chocolate chips. Stir until smooth. If it’s still lumpy, try pushing it through a sieve.
