Giveaway: Le Creuset Indoor Grill Pan! [Closed]

Posted by on Saturday Oct 9th, 2010 | Print

Win this Le Creuset Square Skillet Grill Pan!

We’ve been coping with the change of seasons here at BGSK.

Our light summer beach bags won’t cut it anymore when toting home huge gourds from the farmers’ market, and we have to remember our ever-cozy scarves and ever-trendy fall jackets when leaving our apartments to go there.

We may not lament the disappearance of corn and zucchini after a summer-long OD, but one thing we will miss is the grill we used to char them.

Thanks to our friends at Le Creuset, we’ll be taking our no-fuss grilling habits indoors this fall, and one lucky reader will receive the same small kitchen luxury!

In order to win this snazzy new grill pan, in the chic autumn color cassis, you must complete the following:

  • Become a subscriber to our newsletter. (we’ll check!!)
  • Leave a comment below and tell us about your favorite fall dish.
  • (Optional) Tweet about this contest @BGSK @LeCreuset and receive an extra entry!

We’ll be busy gobbling up these Grilled Mushroom Cheddar Melts in the meantime, and we’ll announce the randomly selected winner next week!

From our kitchen, grilling indoors in grandpa sweaters, to yours,

Cara & Phoebe, THE QUARTER-LIFE COOKS

It would be impossible to choose an all-time favorite fall dish, but so far this year the blue ribbon is going to a pumpkin-black bean soup. So exciting to see the true savory side of pumpkin after you take away the cinnamon, nutmeg, ginger, and cloves!

    • http://www.biggirlssmallkitchen.com/ BGSK

How intriguing! Can u describe this? Is it just your standard black bean soup with chunks of pumpkin? Or a pumpkin puree? Great idea!

I love baked spaghetti squash pie! The squash makes the crust with tomato sauce (homemade!) with Italian sausage in the middle and cheese on top.

    • http://www.biggirlssmallkitchen.com/ BGSK

Would LOVE this recipe. Sounds awesome.

      • JK

No real recipe. I just cook the spaghetti squash ( micro or oven) then shred it. I usually add salt and pepper (an egg and Parmesan cheese if I’m not watching calories) Press into pie pan as a crust. Top with tomato sauce and Italian sausage (cooked) or seasoned ground turkey. Top with Mozzarella and bake until bubbly.

I am in love with my La Creuset French oven, and was just singing its praises last week when I made a ludicrously good pot roast with red potatoes, carrots and even noodles! (who can resist starch at a time like this?) in a savory tomato beef broth. You just can’t beat a classic fall dish like a hearty roast when the leaves are falling and you have to close the windows in the late afternoon when the temperature drops. I seriously need to lay off the starch. Please award me this lovely grill pan so I can branch out. :-)

  • Just One Femme’s Story

It is only now that I truly value the importance of not only buying quality cookware but caring for them so that they last. I’ve always bought decent quality pots, pans and gadgets but never spent a lot of money for any one item. I have learned three things from living in shelters
    1) NO ONE teaches most of today’s women how to cook quality meals using items that do not always come from a can.
    2) No one has taught today’s women how to care for pots & pans so they last
    3) No one has told today’s women that quality matters just as much in cookware as it does in men.

I love to cook but find it difficult to cook using damaged pans and women who prefer canned and quick over fresh and more than 10 minutes to be a finished meal. :(

  • kate

I think my favorite fall dish (and winter) is beef stew. There is nothing like the smell of it cooking in a slow cooker after a long day, and that first bite of falling apart beef is to die for. It may also be my favorite fall dish because today is the first real day it has felt like fall for me, and my mom made beef stew this morning, so it may just be on my mind!

With the last of the corn at the farmer’s market, I like to make corn soup. All I do is cut the kernels off the corn, boil the cobs in a pot of water with a potato and half the kernels, remove the cobs, puree, and then cook with the remaining corn.

And, with the purple plums, I love to make a plum crisp.

  • Kasey

I just made sausage-stuffed spaghetti squash that was so good! It was so easy too and has now become one of my favorite fall dishes.

spiced crab apples! now’s the time of year to pick them (at least in AK — they’ve sweetened with cooler nights) and it’s easy… plus, how often can you use red hots in a recipe? I’m making a batch right now, canning them, and stashing them for holiday gifts. Thanks for the comment threads of more fall time cooking ideas, guys!

    Squash Soup:
Wash and trim squash. Slice, reserving 8 very thin slices for garnish. In a large saucepan, melt butter; gently saute onion and lemon. Sprinkle with flour and cook slowly, stirring, until flour is abs…orbed. Add chicken broth gradually, then sliced squash, salt and pepper. Simmer for 1 hour. Puree soup in blender or food processor. Add nutmeg. To heat, stir in cream with a wire whisk and cook over low heat. Do not allow to boil. Garnish cream of squash soup with reserved squash slices. Squash soup serves 8.

1 1/2 pound(s) summer squash, I use basic yellow squash
    2 Tbsp butter
    1 medium onion(s)
    1/4 medium lemon(s)
    1/4 cup(s) all-purpose flour
6 cube(s) chicken broth, dry cubes
    1 tsp table salt
    1/4 tsp white pepper
    1/4 tsp ground nutmeg
    1 cup(s) light cream

  • AmandaMarie

When the seasons turn, my favorite fall meal is a pot of steaming clam chowder that heralds harvest time in all it’s glory. A thick stew of autumnal root vegetables, finely minced clams, and a fragrant bouquet of herbs that infuse the soup with something magical. Served with a loaf of crusty french bread, voila - the essence of autumn is found simmering on the stove in my kitchen.

  • http://littlekitchenontheprairie.blogspot.com/ Lorimorton

My favourite fall dish….do I have to pick just one??? Apple Crisp!!!!! The crispy crunchy oatmealy topping, the crisp apples rendered sweet and sticky with the addition of brown sugar, honey and warming mix of fall spices such as cinnamon, ginger, nutmeg, and allspice. The smell brings everyone down to the kitchen to await their first taste. Now only if I can get them to do the dishes as well!

Some people think that Southern California fall isn’t “real fall” but for me it’s still one of my favorite seasons because of the produce that’s in season. My favorite fall recipe is roasted acorn squash, gorgonzola, and arugala pizza. I like making individual sizes and grilling the dough! What a lovely use for a new grill pan right?? ;)

  • Laura

I love autumn soups! My favorite is spicy peanut tofu soup, which is really suitable for any season, but especially yummy and comforting in Autumn. I also LOVE pumpkin and butternut squash soup, topped with a very lightly sweetened (made from scratch with patience and strong wrists) cinnamon whipped cream. Yum!! I’ll be making, and posting recipes, on my own website soon, of course. :) Happy Autumn!

  • Smrtcookie83

Hi! I just stumbled on your blog and love it! I was drawn in because I just used the bamboo picks from Trader Joe’s at my Bridal Shower last week. Being on Guam I miss Fall weather (I’m an East coaster here for my hubs for another year ) so one of my favorites to remind me of the season is Apple Pie…simple, easy and takes me right home where we would go apple picking. And really nothing beats the cinnamon smell filling the house while it cooks.

  • CEH

Easy. Pumpkin pie. I know that I can eat it (and often do eat it) all year round, but there is just something about buying a little pumpkin at the farmer’s market and making an unbelievable pumpkin pie for my family’s Thanksgiving. Best. Food. Ever.

  • Jcwegmann

I would love to win this grill pan for my wife who loves cooking. My fave fall dish would be any soup to warm me up on those nice, chily days.

  • http://www.facebook.com/Allan.Douglas.Designs Allan Douglas

Doesn’t your grandpa grouse at you for wearing his sweaters while cooking? OK, so I’m fashion-lame.

I always look forward to fall because it is soup season. No one particular recipe, may favorites are 16 bean soup and fresh vegetable soup made with products of our own garden. The crock pot is great for these: set it up inthe morning and it’s ready to eat that evening. Make lots and enjoy it for several means; the flavor just improves with age (within reason of course!)

The grill is no good for soup, but it would be great for grilling the late-season squash!
    Tweet, tweet!

I love roasting most root vegetables in the fall. But I must say that my favorite way to prepare sweet potatoes is to boil them and then mash them up with butter, a little honey and brown sugar! I’ll usually have these as a side dish with chicken, salmon, or crab legs!

This would be an awesome addition to my new kitchen….I cook everyday and my favorite breakfest meal is french toast and bacon…this will cook that 4 sure

  • Sarah Fitzrandolph Brown

Wow, what a popular comment chain! It’s hard for me to choose between my favorite fall breakfast, nibble and dinner.

For breakfast, I’ve found myself making an autumnal oatmeal which consists of rolled oats prepared with 1/4 can of pumpkin puree, some almond milk, a dash of nutmeg and cinnamon, and topped with some nuts and brown sugar. I really think the almond milk makes it-giving it a light nutty flavor and keeping it relatively healthy.

As an app/snack I’ve found myself savoring the last of summer and making a crostini using plum butter I purchased at the farmers market and some caramelized onions. Super easy and almost no mess.

And… My fav seasonal supper has been cubed roasted butternut which I then sauté with a sage brown butter adding some fresh escarole at the end and placing atop fresh cut pasta from rafettos. This has been a real crowd pleaser and even I was surprised as to how well the escarole blended in with the other fall flavors.

I love to make soups when the weather turns cool. Here in Texas, a good pot of fresh ground Sirloin Chili with Roasted Hatch Chili Peppers hits the spot nicely. I have the chilis in the freezer from the summer’s harvest and I serve this up with some roasted corn corn bread. I use any leftover chili to make an enchilada sauce that’s awesome. Life is good. Enjoy y’all!

  • http://otm-inthegalley.blogspot.com/ SeattleDee

I am a Louisiana native and when it’s cold outside, I love to warm up to a hot, steaming bowl of seafood gumbo. I make gumbo with an over-abundance of shrimp, whole crab, chicken and sausage. I am not of fan of spicy food, but my gumbo must have lots of spices and just enough heat to warm me up on a cold winter day.

  • Linda C,
